"The Penny" Edit Version 6 Complete!

The almost two month absence of updates on "The Penny" might have some of you beginning to wonder if the film even truly exists...but rest assured "Penny" is still alive and well, having just completed the SIXTH edit this week!  You read that right, the sixth edit.  Version five whizzed by us last month with nary a whisper of an update (might have something to do with the fact that the editor was also involved in moving to a new apartment during that time...).

You may have notice that I said "sixth edit" and not "sixth rough edit".  That's because "The Penny" is now officially out of the rough cut stage and actually beginning to near final video lock!  This is exciting especially for me since once we hit video lock that means most of my work as an editor is done.  We can then hand the film off to our audio guy and composer who will work their magic to make "The Penny" even better than it already is.  I'll still be pretty involved in those processes as Director but it will be a nice change of pace from the long days spent in front of a computer screen these past few months.

That also means I'll be able to put some time into editing together a brand new trailer for the film that will provide a better glimpse into what "The Penny" is all about.  Since that's still a little ways off I thought I'd share a couple more still frames with you for now.  Enjoy!

Check back soon for more updates on the completion of video lock and other news!

Creation Science Episodes! Repost

This last week we have had opportunity to work on some creation science episodes for a client out in California. They are to be used in their ministry. Technically, it's not a Filmweavers project as only two of our official crew are working on it. Ethan and Dustin. Then Ashley as AC (Assistant Camera) and one other person who was kind enough to just help with whatever else needed to be done for the shoot in MO. It's a tiny, tiny crew. If you ever tried to shoot something that actually looked decently professional with a crew of 4 you would know what were talking about here! It brings new meaning to the term "skeleton crew"

A typical shot might go something like:

DP: Camera speed!
Director: oook Charlie 2 take 5...(clapper)
DP: ...and set.

Director: Wait is audio rolling?
DP: Do we even have audio is this scene?
AC:Um, was that chair supposed to be there?
PA:I'm picking up static on the lav mike. Especially when they move around.
Director:hmmm..How bad is it?
AC: Well we don't have a boomer sorry.
DP:Ahem, ok we're still speeding here.
PA: I'm picking up the bathroom fan again too.

Director: (Grunt) I thought that was turned off!
PA: The good news is that means we are rolling audio.
AC: I'll grab that chair.
DP: Just FYI we are still speeding. It's only hardrive space after all...
Director. Why isn't that fan off yet! CUT!
DP: that's a cut...

Ok. so maybe every take isn't quite that bad :) But it's definitely been interesting, and difficult in new ways.

The fun part is that Molly, our main actress from the Penny film was kind enough to come act in this for us! We were delighted that she could come! It's currently being shot at Ava Christian Academy which graciously allowed us to film in one of their classrooms. We have two episodes completed shooting and one to go. We'll keep you updated on the progress. In the meantime check out just a couple stills from the shooting. The episodes revolve around a professor and his lab assistant. Stay tuned we will post some more in the completion of shooting episode 3!
