A Weekend in Ohio

Last weekend Micah and I had the privilege of heading out to Ohio for the premiere of "Bringing Up Bobby", a film I worked on during January of 2008.  There was a great turnout for the screening (over 400 people), and even though I'd already seen the film it was still great to watch it in a large crowd and hear the laughs.  And LAUGHS there were!  The film is by far the funniest and cleanest Christian comedy I've ever watched.  If you haven't seen "Bringing Up Bobby" I'd highly recommend you check it out at: www.bringingupbobby.com

Chris Staron (Writer/Director/Producer of "Bringing Up Bobby"), Brian Morvant (who plays "Dennis" in the film, as well as "Rick" in our upcoming film "The Penny"), and Micah head for the entrance of the premiere.

WEEK FIVE & WRAP: "Untitled Comedy Project"

They say good things come to those who wait - hopefully this post is a good thing because you've definitely been waiting long enough for it! Contrary to popular opinion I did not drop off the face of the earth, but am in fact alive and well back at home in WI.  It's been almost two weeks sine we wrapped on the "Untitled Comedy Project" which is kind of hard to believe. Week five of production was a bittersweet time as one be one we had to say good bye to the many friends we had...

WEEKS THREE & FOUR: "Untitled Comedy Project"

Sorry for the extended silence from the production set here.  Last weekend our entire crew was down with a nasty stomach bug and I was in no shape to post about it here.  Everyone has gotten over it now so we're ready to go for the LAST week of shooting on the "Untitled Comedy Project". This past week started out with a splash (literally) as we found ourselves shooting at an indoor waterpark.  Using an underwater housing for the camera we were able to get some great footage...

WEEK TWO: "Untitled Comedy Project"

Let me first say that I am GREATLY enjoying this chance to work on a comedy film after working on dramas for the last few productions. The ability to do a lot of improvising and come up with great comedic ideas off the cuff right before rolling the camera is very refreshing. This past week of filming has produced some very funny moments and scenes for the film. Even after repeated takes of the same lines over and over I still found myself trying to hold in the laughter. Then as I imported...

WEEK ONE: "Untitled Comedy Project"

The first week of production is in the can (or hard drive as it were) here on the set of the "Untitled Comedy Project", and we're all breathing a collective sigh of relief as we enjoy our well deserved Sunday and Monday off. The first week was full of challenges (what else would you expect on a film set!) ranging from extremely windy conditions during outdoor shoots to losing an entire days worth of audio due to a CF card malfunction. But as we sit here now and look back over the footage shot, we feel extremely satisfied with what has been accomplished. The Panasonic HVX200 which the film is being shot on produces wonderful color and sharpness even without the Redrock M2 adapter.

After a couple days of shooting the tough decision was made to abandon the use of the adapter in the interest of gaining the multiple stops of light it eats up. The decision has also made focusing much easier during the use of the glidecam which is being utilized for a lot of the footage being shot. Week two starts up tomorrow with some of the acting talent from NYC flying in tonight. The majority of our week will be spent in Cleveland shooting at the main house location where we have no internet access so it might be a little while before the next update but stay tuned!

"Untitled Comedy Project" by Glowing Nose

Some of you may be familiar with Glowing Nose Productions run by twin brothers Nick and Chris Staron.  For those of you who aren't I would encourage you to check them out at www.glowingnose.com and take a look at their last film "Between the Walls".

But on to why this has anything to do with Filmweavers... This Saturday I (Nathan) will be flying out to Ohio to work on the production of Nick and Chris' latest film "Untitled Comedy Project" as Assistant Director.  This film has me pretty excited having read the script and seen the potential it has.  The twins can be pretty funny sometimes and this film will be no exception!  It should be the first of it's kind in the Christian film industry.

Stay tuned here on the blog for updates from the set during production.  Let me know if there's anything specificaly you'd like me to blog about.
