The Penny

Filmweavers LLC, is now casting for their feature film entitled "The Penny". Filmweavers' last film "The Heartwood Dagger" was shown at film festivals across the country and has aired on television stations around the world. "The Penny" is an ultra-low budget film with ultra-high production values. It will be shot on DVCpro HD with a 35mm adapter and lenses by a crew of award winning filmmakers. The five week production is scheduled to start shooting on November 17th in Southeast Wisconsin. This film is a great opportunity for budding and established non-union actors to get national and even international exposure.

There are a number of day player roles in addition to those listed below including roles for males aged 5-65, and females aged 16-55.

Synopsis

"The Penny" is a drama/thriller that follows a series of seemingly insignificant events in a number of people's lives. Hidden amidst their "bigger" problems, these disconnected pieces of their lives go unnoticed until they begin to fit together in a totally unexpected way. Suddenly these strangers are thrust together by what some would call luck, chance, fate, coincidence, or even destiny. But is it something even bigger than that?

ROLES:

JACK: A 40-something father of 3, Jack is a former police detective. He quit the force after his partner was shot and killed making an arrest with him. Jack is still haunted by memories of that night and feels responsible for his partner's death. Now an "average joe" mailman, Jack is dealing with a broken relationship with daughter Kate, and caring for his wife Laura's failing health. He enjoys spending time with his young sons Jay and Timmy.

DAN: A bitter man in his 60's, Dan is never nice to anyone. He owns and operates a gas station/towing auto repair shop that is not doing well financially and about to go bankrupt. Dan is also in the process of trying to divorce his wife Jean because of her affair with another man.

RICK: A young man in his 20's, Rick had a troubled childhood and fell in with the wrong crowd for awhile. Now, after trying to get his life back on track, Rick makes one more bad decision and finds a drug dealer threatening his life if he doesn't pay up.

CURT: A young man also in his 20's, Curt is best friends with Rick and the two share an apartment together. Curt's childhood was a troubled one but he seems to have successfully turned his life around. His current vice is video games, which he spends all his time and money on, causing him to space out on most everything else. When Rick gets in trouble with the drug dealer, Curt finds himself pulled unwillingly into the messy situation as well.

KATE: An active teenage girl of 16, Kate is Jack and Laura's oldest child. She is best friends with Jade and spends as much time with her as she can, which frustrates Jack who wants her help more around home with the sick Laura. Kate is upset by Jack's rules and demands, and their father/daughter relationship is not a good one.

DARRELL: A single, middle aged man of 40-50, Darrell is a struggling police detective. He is investigating Rick and Curt's involvement in a murder. While Darrell suspects they're involved, he has trouble finding evidence. His boss is on his back demanding better performance, but no matter how hard Darrell tries nothing seems to go his way. Darrell longs for acceptance and companionship and is attracted to his co-worker Shannon.

JADE: An attractive teenage girl of 17, Jade is more concerned with how she looks than anyone or anything else around her. When she's not staring at herself in the mirror, Jade works at Dan's gas station and hangs out with her friend Kate.

BAZ: An intimidating drug dealer, Baz could be anywhere between the ages of 25-60. He is always followed around by his group of thugs and henchmen. Rick owes him a sizeable amount of money and Baz will stop at nothing to get it back, including murder. His constant threats keep Rick and Curt frantically trying to come up with the cash.

LAURA: The 35-40-something wife of Jack, Laura is also the caring mother of their three children, Kate, Jay, and Timmy. Her normally full-time job of caring for her family is put on hold by a strange sickness Laura is fighting. She struggles with her inability to perform normal household tasks as she is laid up, and has to watch Jack struggle with the extra chores.

JAY: The 7 year old son of Jack and Laura, Jay is a proud big brother to Timmy. He is always trying to correct his younger brother, and looks for any opportunity to display his knowledge. Jay loves spending time with Jack, and looks up to his father.

TIMMY: A cute boy of 3, Timmy is constantly bringing smiles to his family's faces. His unexpected questions are often wiser than his years. Timmy looks up to both Jay and Jack, and loves spending time with his big brother and daddy.

JEAN: An attractive woman in her 50-60's, Jean is Dan's estranged wife of 35 years. She had an affair with another man and Dan is now seeking a divorce. Jean has ended the affair and is seeking Dan's forgiveness and reconciliation without much success.

SHANNON: A single woman of 30-40, Shannon works with Darrell at the police station. In her interactions with Darrell she unintentionally sets up hopes in the detective's mind of a relationship. A relationship which Shannon isn't looking for.
